The purpose of Engage 24, held Feb. 5-6 in Phoenix, was to raise the evangelistic temperature among Arizona Southern Baptists’ lead pastors. The attendance peaked at 224 registered, with more wanting to attend.
In partnership with the North American Mission Board, we asked North Phoenix Baptist Church to host the event, and the NPBC staff could not have been more helpful. Props to Noe Garcia, lead pastor, for having everything ready to make Engage 24 top notch.
At the event, six lead pastors shared what is working in their churches and how they engage the community and their congregations. The majority of comments I received were about John Meador, pastor at First Baptist Euless, Texas, and https://www.6stones.org.
Meador had a focus on world missions when God reminded him about the poverty next door in the church’s backyard. Six Stones ministry was birthed as “It became apparent that we really needed to pay more attention to our Jerusalem,” said Meador. Since it began in 2008, 6 Stones has repaired close to 1,000 homes, donated school supplies to more than 26,000 students, provided Christmas gifts for more than 30,000 children, logged nearly 352,000 volunteer hours and invested over $12.5 million in local communities. Pastors struggling to reach their communities would have gained some great insights at Engage 24.
What you need to hear is that Arizona Southern Baptist churches that support the Cooperative Program helped to pay for this quality evangelism event. We are blessed, indeed, to have an excellent cooperative approach to ministry that helps our local churches, communities and great state of Arizona.
Let’s have other great discipleship evangelism offerings for our people, and we can as you give to CP. We are all CP in the AZSBC. Join us!
